Kittye,

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply to you. Work has kept me very busy.

The best advice I can give you is read the a couple of times and highlight important parts.

Don't do like I did one week and forget to read part of the quiz material because I was working on the term paper and had a brain meltdown!

Doug,
Thank you for posting your work on the New Testament Survey class. It has been most helpful. This is my first one line class and my first theology class. I am overwhelmed with all the reading and writing. When I saw that you are an English teacher I felt like we would have kindred spirits. I taught English and Reading at Middle school level. I retired last year and now I would like to do counseling for young people and women. I feel like God has called me to this ministry but I wonder if I am going to survive this class. I was shaking like a leaf after taking the first on-line test that was timed. I didn't do too well on the first quiz. I spend all my waking hours studying and writing.
Can you give me any ideas about how to survive and how to get ready for these tests? At least make me laugh! (Smile)
I hope you are well and I wanted to let you know how much help your posted writings helped me in getting started. Many thanks and may God Bless!

Doug, what class are you currently taking at Liberty? Also who was your instructor on this class? I am taking the same class and would like to expand upon some of your ideas. Is that ok? I think this is great and would encourage you to continue posting.

Class Comment:

Very good answer to this question.I saw in this the same patterns of then are the same of now.I see that time brings about change in everything and usually that outcome is the loss of a part of something as important as the way we worship learn and interact with one another to fit the so called change of the time.Things like this are as i read in another reply the cause of the birth of such nonsense such as the Church of Scientology.

Class Comment:

You gave a great answer to the question. It's certainly true that by the time of Alexander's conquest, the Jews had already been exposed to the Greek culture through trading. I believe that probably simply eased the transition for many Jews to accept Hellenism- especially since they were already somewhat aware of that culture.

And you brought up an excellent point for us to remember, that just as the Jews had to face attacks against their faith and religion, so we face attacks against our faith and religion. The new age religions and modern schools of thought are simply ancient beliefs revisited and tweaked to fit modern society.

God Bless!

Douglas,

"Finally, the so called new age religions have grown out of these Greek concepts which means that new age is really old age and that you really can’t teach old dogs new tricks but you can give him a new collar and a bath and clean him up for the public."

Truer words were never spoken!

Thanks for the insight and the laugh.

Response from class:

Hi Douglas,

Great post! I really enjoyed your thoughts about how Josephus' work is regarded as more valid than some of the inspired books that seem to have more presence throughout history.

Also, you are right on with your analogy of William Bradford's writings from Plymouth. I agree that personal opinion is highly relevant when the reader understands the context in which the writing is set.

That's exactly how why we need to better understand the perspective of the Biblical writers.

Thanks,
